Steps
Prep Your Surface for a Perfect Bond
10 minutesStart by vacuuming or wiping down each stair to remove any dust, dirt, or oils. A completely dry surface is essential, as even a little moisture can prevent our special adhesive from creating a secure bond. If you have any rough spots, a light sanding will help. Safety Note: Please allow any freshly painted or finished stairs to cure completely before applying your treads, as the adhesive needs a stable surface to grip.

5 minutesUsing a soft pencil or chalk, lightly mark the center point on the surface of each wooden stair. This mark is your guide for perfect alignment, creating a beautiful, uniform look down the entire staircase. Because our treads are custom-made to fit, you likely won't need to do any trimming.

5 minutesWe recommend starting at the top of your staircase and working your way down. Carefully peel the protective film from the back of the tread to reveal our non-damaging adhesive. Gently align the tread with your center mark and lay it down on the step.

5 minutesOnce your tread is in position, use your hands to apply firm, even pressure. Start in the center and smooth your way out to the edges. This technique pushes out any trapped air and ensures the entire tread, especially the corners, makes solid contact. This is key for a secure footing and preventing any lifting over time.
Watch: Press Down FirmlyRepeat, Admire, and Enjoy!
15 minutesContinue your rhythm down the stairs, repeating the peel, place, and press steps for each tread. After all treads are installed, you can immediately feel The Oak Valley Difference! Walk up and down to experience the new-found traction. If you notice any edge lifting, simply press it down firmly again. Now you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a safer, more beautiful staircase.
